Production resource management

Plan your production with MRP

Do you manage production processes and need to coordinate your purchasing and manufacturing activities?

Would you like to draw up a master production plan based on manufacturing requirements over a given period?

With the "Production Resource Management" app, calculate your net production requirements!

Installing the "Production Resource Management" app,? allows you to define :

  • Production strategy for a product
  • Master production plan
  • Calculating net requirements

1. Definition of production method

This app requires the "Product management" app.

The "Production resource management" app adds in the "Production management" block of the product sheet :

  • a"Production lead time" field: to be expressed in whole days. This value will then be proposed when the production order is created to calculate the lead time.
  • a"Production strategy" field: with a drop-down menu containing the following options: "Make to stock" to choose production from stock or "Make to order" to opt for order-based production

If Make to order is activated: a production order is automatically created when the order is sent to the customer. The customer defined on the production order is then the third party in the file, and the scheduled date of the production order is the part creation date plus the product manufacturing lead time. Any modification to the order following the change of status and automatic generation of the information must be entered manually.

2. Production master plan

The "Production resource management" app adds a new "Production master plan" menu item to the "Production" tab.

This menu is used to create a "New production plan" and to access the "List" of existing plans.

To create a new production plan, click on "+ production plan", Select :

  • Reference period: this field is used to enter a "past" start and end date for historical data reference. It is therefore not possible to enter a date in the future.
  • Brand, if app installed: this field is used to filter by product brand.
  • Product category : this field is used to filter on a product category according to item classification.
  • Weighting: a "weighting" field is used to modulate the quantities calculated, which will be increased or decreased according to the value of this field. This weighting must be expressed as a positive or negative integer "%".
  • The planned period : a planned period field is used to enter a start date and a "future" end date for which production is planned. It is therefore not possible to enter a date in the past.

A click on the "Calculate Production Plan" button generates the production plan table and displays the monthly data result, calculated according to selected filters.

The values calculated for each product line correspond to the quantities invoiced for the product over the reference period.
Quantities are weighted according to the value entered in the weighting field
Calculated quantities are displayed by default for the first month of the planned period.
Calculated quantities can be modified line by line and for each column of the table.

A default setting, "Hide zero quantities", hides product lines marketed and in the sales catalog whose calculated quantities are zero.

Once the results have been expressed, they can be saved and stored in the software via the "Save PDP" link in their final version, i.e. the modified version, if applicable.
This backup data can be accessed via the "List of Production Master Plans" link, enabling several simulations to be stored.

3. Calculation of Net Requirements

The "Production resource management" app adds a new "Net requirement calculations" menu to the "Production" tab.

This new menu allows you to create a "New Requirement Calculation table" and access the "List" of existing tables.

A shortcut "Launch requirements calculation" is also available on the "production plan" object.
Requirements calculation can be performed from a saved production plan or without a prior production plan.

Calculating requirements

  • Click on Recalculate net requirement
  • Select simulation conditions in terms of : Brand, Category, Reference period, Reference object (order confirmations or on production orders or on a master production plan. If the "based on a production plan" option is selected, then a drop-down menu allows you to select a production plan in validated status), Alert stock and Supplier order processing.

The "Calculate Net Requirement" button is used to manage the data table.

Data table contents

The columns show a monthly display over a sliding 12-month period, starting with the current month.

Rows show product lines according to filters applied
Products are grouped in two distinct blocks: "Manufactured products" and "Purchased products". (the "Manufactured products" block groups products in the "Manufactured products" catalog, while the "Purchased products" block groups products in the "Purchased products" catalog).

Each line contains the following information for each month:

  • Reserved quantities
  • Available stock quantities
  • Quantity of work-in-progress, supplied via production orders for manufactured products and supplier orders for purchased products.
  • Missing quantities to supply or produce, i.e. net requirement

If, in the simulation conditions, Net Requirement Calculation is selected :

  • Production orders: For each line in the data table, a link allows you to generate a production order directly, taking into account production requirements and product lead times. The product lines proposed will then be the component lines of compound products, if the product manufactured is a compound product.
  • Order confirmation: For each line in the data table, a link is provided to generate a production order directly, based on the products on sale.

Once the results have been expressed, they can be saved and stored in the software using the "Save net requirement calculation" link.
This backup data can be accessed from the "Net requirement calculation" link, enabling several simulations to be saved.
